As we have more canditates we can admit, every year enrollment tests are organized. The study work for the pupils from the first to the fourth class (primary school) is carried out in the so-called "small house", which was built in 1958. Starting from the fifth class, the pupils move to the historic main building, the so-called "big house" , which was renovated in 2000 and has been accounted as a culutral memorial as the first house built as a school in our country.
Task:
The tasks of the potential EVS volunteer would be helping to prepare and organizing the activities of the primary school in co-operation with the class teachers and the leader of extra-curricular activities.
Primary level (from first up to fouth grade students) lessons take place in a separate house. In total there are eight classes, two parallel in each grade. Lessons take place in two shifts - first and thrird grade begin at 8 a.m and second and fourth grades approxximately at 10 am.
Volunteer's workday begins at 9 am and lasts till 4 pm. Every Friday head of primary level studies and volunteer will agree, what kind of specific tasks will the volunteer do during the next week in order to help teachers. In addition every Friday pervious week duties will be summarized-discussed.
Volunteer's duties could be as follows:
" assistance of a teacher in art and handicraft lessons. In these lessons children need help of an adult, for example when opening paints or when gluing with specific glue or in case of more difficult techniques.During one week there are in total 16 art and handicraft lessons.
" assistance of a teacher in science lessons (R studies). There are a lot of group work, practical tasks, experiments and outdoor activities in these lessons.
" assistance of a teacher in physical education lessons, in case these lessons will not be carried out in Reaalkool's gym or stadium. Volunteer's taks is to accompany students with teacher or parents for example to swimming lessons (for example third grade swimming lessons)
" In the 4th grade of Tallinna Reaalkooli there is a pupil with a physical disability (he has leg prothesis and no hands). The boy has good intellectual abilities, however, he needs help with using study materials. The tasks of the potential EVS volunteer would include being a support person for him, help him during lessons, study excursions and extracurricular events.
" Volunteer could help teachers in organizing and conducting extra curriculum events. For example organizing games, competitions in parties, participating in excursions or outdoor lessons.
" Volunteer could help organizing primary school events. Traditional events are: three sports days in a year, celebration of Father's and Mother's Day and Christmas, Autum, Christmas and Spring Fairs. Every year have been organised olympiad for students to test their skills and Sience Day as part of curriculum. New even will be primary level gymnastic party.
" Volunteer could help teachers in decorating school house in different events, exhibition of pupil's works; preparing class materials, sports events results etc.
" Volunteer could make a blog, which we could connect to Reaalkool's homepage.
" As primary school house is small, it enables volunteer to communicate with children and develop their English skills.
